Welcome to My Gallery

I've had a lot of people asking me over the last few years to show which pieces on this site are my own artwork. So in response to that, I've decided to put all of my contributions to this site on one page. Hopefully this will clear up any misunderstandings or confusion about what I personally created for the site. I'll be adding to this page as I have time, but for now, these pictures are what I have personally drawn for the site, as of June 2004.

I might consider adding a page of pictures I had to extensively edit to fit my needs (such as the chopping, recoloring, etc, I did for Khrystle), but that's not on my list of priorities at the moment.

My latest personal addition to the site was this picture of Baron Karza. I penciled and then inked this piece while I was out of work with a neck injury in April of 2004. Out of gratitude for my very regal protrayal of his centaur form, Karza sent me to the Body Banks for medical attention, allowing me a full and speedy recovery.

Back in May of 1999 I sketched this picture to represent the armored helmet of Karza's heir apparent in New Denver, the man known only as Doom. I took inspiration from the Acroyear helmets, Dr. Doom's faceplate, and the grill-like guard covering Karza himself.

The picture looks a little rough, but that's because I never inked it and cleaned up the lines. I just penciled it, scanned it in, and edited the contrast in Paint Shop Pro to give better definition to the lines. It should probably be redone. For now, there's a new picture of Doom in his armor, found later on this page.

In June of 1999, I added this picture of the rogue Robotech Master Tyrus. Tyrus needed to be a much different person than the typical Master, but still needed to be recognizable as one of their clones. I chose to look at the typical renditions of the Masters, as seen in the Robotech series, and simply drew them younger.

Once I was done, I scanned the penciled drawing and used Paint Shop Pro and Adobe PhotoDeluxe to give the colors I wanted for his otherworldly flesh and hair. He turned out looking powerful, yet somehow decayed and alien, I think.

Wayne Breaux unveiled a number of new designs for Palladium's Robotech RPG Book Eight: Strike Force. These were intended to show the evolution of Earth's mecha from the hulking behemoths shown in the Macross Era to the smaller Southern Cross and REF mecha. One of those designs was the Gladius (pp. 21-23 for those of you scoring at home). The problem was that I didn't like the lack of a real head.

So in April of 2004 I sat down and fixed that, mixing design elements of Wayne's Gladius with some stylized variations on the Armored Veritech design that clearly inspired Wayne's original design. In the end, I really like how it came out. I'm currently working on an inked version of this design, so that should look a lot better.

The Invid Stormtrooper was something I'd actually had brewing in my mind since I was a kid. My friends and I had a bunch of the Matchbox Robotech toys that came out, including the Invid Shock Trooper. Somewhere along the way, we figured out that you could remove the twin cannons and replace them with additional arms. This seemed like a natural swap to people who were interested in Micronauts and the interchangeable world they brought us as kids.

Anyway, this sketch from July of 1998 is looking kind of rough as I look back on it. It's somewhat flawed as well, particularly looking at the arms. Like Doom's helmet pic, this should probably be redone. Maybe sometime in the future. For now, I have other priorities.

I was working on designs for the Beastmen of New Denver all day, but I couldn't get it a design I liked. So I took a break and went back to working on Doom, knowing that I wasn't really all that happy with the way his full armor pic had turned out originally.

The helmet stays the same, with minor changes made to the rest fo the armor. It went from being purely derivative of the Stage Five (humanoid) invid armor to a design that shows other elements on top of the Invid design. I decided to add spikes to the shoulders, knees, and forearms, as a bit of a visual cue to his origins. I then made a couple changes to the torso of his armor to reflect his relation to Karza. Nothing too over the top, but the visual cues are there. I'm much happier with how this piece turned out than with the original.
