There was a large population within this now-booming city. The ruins still existed, but throughout them there was a unique, insect-like, hive-like architecture that had given a link to all of the buildings. As we approached the city limits, we were stopped by a large, black, crab-like robot vehicle of some sort. It had four arms and looked quite formidable. We were told that we were trespassing into the capital city of the kingdom of the Invid ruler, Lord Karza. We were asked if our intentions were to fight or go peacefully about our business. Not knowing what we were up against, I immediately identified myself and my team as members of an exploratory force under the authorization of the Coalition States government, and that we had no intentions to attack. This was a mission of peace and exploration, not an act of war, I explained. Besides, I thought, if we don't make it back to headquarters with the knowledge of this settlement, our families and friends would be doomed.
We were surrounded by several more of these crab-like robots and then led through the city to the other side. As we passed by the old sports arena, we noticed a great hive that was like a castle within the structure of the pre-cataclysm building. We were almost in disbelief as to what we were witnessing. There was no way that such an elaborate civilization could have been erected in such short time, yet we were there. The sights that we saw in the city, which they referred to as New Denver, capital of the Invid Empire, were simply unbelievable. There was a highly advanced civilization here where we had seen nothing just weeks before. It is my recommendation that we gather more intelligence in regards to the community of New Denver. Who are they? Where did they come from? What do they want? I am convinced that this settlement is a power that we will have to deal with in the future, if we truly want to drive all D-bees away from humanity."
Unknown to the Robotech Masters, this act of cruelty would come back to haunt them, transforming the peace-loving Invid into a race of nightmarish monsters seeking vengeance. The Invid were just as powerful and advanced as the high-and-mighty Masters of Tirol, and possessed a metaphysical science based on their own life-force that was more than equal to anything the Robotech Masters could unleash. Like the phoenix of myth, the dying race rose again, but this time as the Invid war machine. Billions of slug-like creatures, devoured and consumed by their hatred, within the crab-like mecha of the Invid armies, would rise up to seek their revenge. Sadly, the Invid became just as evil and unmerciful as the very beings that they despised. Any world, any beings, found with the sacred Invid "Flower of Life" were destroyed or enslaved. No questions were asked. No trial. No possibility of innocence. The world must pay. Destruction and enslavement was the price of being an ally to the evil Tirolian Masters. The Invid's belief was that all must pay. Even if they were simply customers of the merchants that were the Robotech Masters, they possessed the Flower of Life and must pay.
The Invid hordes were led by two ruling beings, the Regent and Regis. The two powerful rulers of the Invid were created when the Masters destroyed their homeworld of Optera. The transformation from peace to war separated the formerly united Invid intelligence into the two ruthless leaders, with the Regis representing the female side and the Regent being the male. While the Regent cultivated an ever-growing empire in the sector of space containing Optera, the Regis set out on a journey to find the Flower of Life that had been stolen by Zor and sent through Hyperspace. Eventually tracking it to Earth, she did battle with REF forces there after the defeat of the Robotech Masters. The earth's defenses, already spent from the war against the Robotech Masters, were no match for the overwhelming blitzkrieg of the Regis and her Invid. The Regent, meanwhile, would die in combat against the REF in the middle of his empire. Fighting in one-on-one combat against the Zentraedi Warrior Breetai, The Regent's life-force was extinguished in the blast of the self-destruct mechanism of Breetai's power armor. After being driven from Earth by the REF, the Regis and her Invid wandered in search of another planet that was capable of supporting the Flower of Life, while also suitable for her search for the evolutionary perfection of the Invid race. Eventually, after battling for, and destroying, several worlds that might have been acceptable, she came to an unforeseen conclusion. The Invid must leave the universe completely. Preparations were made for a jump through hyperspace to a parallel dimension where the Masters and Zor didn't exist. At least that was the plan. Upon arrival on Optera of this foreign dimension, the Regis made a horrible discovery. The Masters and Zentraedi had already been there and had razed the planet. After further examination of the planet, she realized that all Invid life there was extinguished. Total genocide had been accomplished by the Masters in this reality. Too weak to find yet another universe and transport her Invid children to it's safety, the Regis gave in to the rages that boiled up within her, declaring war on this civilization of Masters and Zentraedi lackeys. A bloody campaign led to the destruction of the Masters and Zentraedi on Tirol. Just as they were preparing to embark on a hunt for their enemy, a rift opened on the planet's surface. And from it strode a tall humanoid figure in black body armor.
Her first instinct was to strike out and destroy this unfamiliar being, but she decided that if he was a Master, then he could give information on where they could find the rest of her enemies.
After several hours interrogation, it was decided that the stranger had no connection to the Masters and had come to Tirol accidentally. Swearing allegiance to the Regis and her cause, the dark figure went to her side, formally introducing himself.
"I am Baron Karza, exiled ruler of the Microverse. Whatever assistance I may be, I humbly offer to you, Regis," came the cold, deep metallic sound from his poly-alloy mask. And so an alliance most unholy was born. After much discussion of the goals of the Invid, Karza offered his skills as a master geneticist to allow her to continue her search for the ultimate level of evolutionary development for her children. Meanwhile the Masters were preparing an offensive of their own against the Invid. Within two weeks time, the Masters were prepared to strike on this new colony of creatures which resembled the Invid that they had exterminated but were far more powerful and warlike. These were not what they were expecting. The Invid that they had known had not evolved completely into the warlike race that they saw before them. To say that the Masters were unprepared is an understatement. Through the advantage of their Space Fold systems, the Masters' forces were able to appear seemingly from nowhere with a total surprise attack as the result of their ingenuity. The Invid cause seemed lost until the moment that Karza stepped into battle himself, his centaur body blasting away at the Bioroids and Zentraedi that had swarmed over his new allies. With his formidable physical and psychic powers at their side, the Invid struck back at their mortal enemies, turning the tide of the battle. Soon the Invid stood victorious on the battleground, but at a great cost. Many casualties were suffered by the Invid in the Masters' initial surprise attack. Karza immediately went to work, making modifications to Invid physiology and mecha. Not even the Regis was fully aware of his work, with much of it kept completely in secret. Eventually the Masters returned, but this time Karza was waiting for them, for he had secretly allowed the Masters to find the Regis' Invid armada. When the Masters moved to make their attack on the unsuspecting Invid armada, Karza, who knew of their position, ordered the Invid force into battle against their foes. The Masters' forces never knew what hit them. Karza had prepared several new forms of Invid troops for combat and had been holding them in the secret confines of his lab, waiting for this opportunity. The release of the new Stormtroopers, four-armed black and red monsters resembling the purple Shock Troopers, was more than the bioroids could handle. Within minutes of the attack's beginning, it was over, with the Masters' ship executing a Space Fold to another part of the Megaverse. 90% of the Masters forces were lost that day, with only a 10% loss by the Invid thanks to what the Regis called, "the unselfish acts of heroism displayed by Karza." Within the week, he was named the new All-Father to the Invid, the title previously held by the Regent before his death. Karza continued making plans for the evolution of the Invid in public, all the while planning to overthrow her with the very technology and troops he was engineering for her. Several years passed, with Karza becoming a beloved part of the Invid worlds. The time was right. Early one morning Karza flipped the switch on his greatest accomplishment. The Regis' power was suddenly drawn into him, and she ceased to exist. The Invid were convinced that Karza should be the one to lead them in this most dire time. And behind the black grating of his poly-alloy mask, the man known as Karza smiled for the first time in many years.
His first destination was to Earth. He transformed the Invid and himself into energy form, and began the long journey. But something wasn't right. It wasn't the Earth he knew, or the one that the Invid had taken over before. This was different. This was a place brimming with magical energy, psionic energy, the ley lines. Being a powerful psychic, he could feel it and knew he would have to work hard to insure total victory over the Earth. He set up headquarters in the Rocky Mountains, near the area that was Denver. He had a large palatial hive built on the remains of Mile High Stadium, with a large pit bored into the planet there to fuel his new body banks. All was in place. His initial reconnaissance showed that the world was inhabited by large civilizations of powerful supernatural beings. This was the challenge that he was waiting for. The Invid quickly took over the surrounding area, while Karza created new beings to serve him as cannon fodder in combat. New dog soldiers (not to be confused with Dog Pack RCC), like the ones he created and commanded in the Microverse, were put into service as he pondered what his next move was to be.
The Xiticix didn't give a chance to settle in, though. At great personal cost, they were repelled by the Invid troops and dog soldiers, pushed back to the hives of their homes. But Karza had seen enough to know that he would need time and allies to control this world. This would become the staging ground for Megaversal conquest. This would be worth the time required to slowly take the world. Karza's first order of business was to contact other forces and offer negotiations with them. His first response was from Lord Splynncryth of Atlantis, and Karza jumped at the opportunity to see his rivals. He could not believe the power of the rest when all met in Atlantis. Luckily for him, they had heard about his defeats of the Robotech Masters, as well as his rulership over the Microverse, and he was looked upon as an equal. After several years of life on Rifts Earth,Lord Karza played a major role in the war against the insidious Mechanoids on Rifts Earth. Fighting alongside the REF in an uneasy alliance, he provided the earth's forces with the much-needed numbers to defeat the Mechanoids threat. After the war against the Mechanoids, Lord Karza and the majority of his Invid mysteriously vanished, but not without leaving New Denver in the hands of the enigmatic man named Doom. Doom will rule New Denver and the surrounding Invid-held territories until the return of Lord Karza. To assist in the defense of these lands, Karza left a garrison of roughly 4,000 Invid in various mecha designs, as well as the spawn of the body banks, the genetically engineered Beastmen to use as his elite guard.
