SDF-4 Apocalypse

As we know, things developed differently on Rifts Earth than on other Earths of the Megaverse. The Kittani-built war machine known as the SDF-4 Apocalypse is evidence of that.

It is known that the Zentraedi were not ordered to attack Rifts Earth by either the Robotech Masters or the Marduk, so it is presumed that Zor's battlefortress never reached Rifts Earth in 1999 A.D. That presumption, however, is incorrect.

In the year 1999 A.D., Zor's battlefortress exited hyperspace near Earth and entered the atmoshpere. Unlike on Robotech Earth, the vessel came down in the Atlantic Ocean, in an attempt to return the seeds of the Flower of Life to Atlantis. With Atlantis no longer there, the battlefortress crashed down into the ocean near the ruins of the Atlantean causeway stones near Biminy. There, the anomlaous energies of the Bermuda Triangle intermingled with the space/time distortion effects of the damaged Space fold system to create an unforeseen event.

The energy fields opened a rift under the sea, which took the badly damaged craft to an interdimensional limbo. There it came to rest on a lost continent. It was in the ruins of ancient Atlantis. Analysis of hull fragments found near the impact site led to the development of the first M.D.C. alloys of the Golden Age. Ten years later, with the battlefortress nowhere to be found, the Zentraedi abided by their rules of non-interference in the matters of Micronians and left the planet untouched.

Meanwhile Zor's battlefortress would remain untouched for centuries.

The coming of the Rifts would signal the end of the starship's solitude, as Atlantis was torn from it's other-dimensional prison and was hurled back to the realm of Rifts Earth. The continent appeared in a fury of storms, floods and earthquakes, all of which did further damage to the once-cherished prize of the Robotech Masters. Atlantis' reappearance on Rifts Earth, coupled with further havoc wreaked upon it's existence by the out of control Space Fold systems, sent out ripples across the Megaverse, alerting supernatural creatures on parallel worlds of the situation.

Lord Splynncryth of the Splugorth was the first to lay claim to the ancient continent after it's re-emergence on Rifts Earth. When his forces swarmed from the rifts to take the continent, Ki-Talan, the Kittani capital on Earth, was built around the ruined craft. Believed to be below the Splugorth's concerns, the Kittani were given free reign over the mysterious vessel.

A century later they began to develop systems utilizing the technology within the ship. The battlefortress helped the kittani unlock the secrets of cloning and genetic engineering. These systems began to grow more and more complex and would eventually gain the attention of Lord Splynncryth.

The Kittani, yearning for a way to regain their freedom, kept some of their technologies and creations a secret from Splynncryth. Spylnncryth was unaware that the Kittani had rebuilt the battlefortress. Even more surprising would have been their construction of another, smaller craft in it's image. As it turns out, the easiest way to disguise the battlefortresses was simply to place them standing in the city in their battloid form.

The smaller battlefortress would be nearly completed as the Mechanoids war broke out, with an experimental Space Fold system, designed after reverse-engineering the damaged systems from Zor's fallen battlefortress. The original starship would never regain it's flight-worthy status, but would instead serve as the headquarters for the Kittani High Command in Ki-Talan.

After the Mechanoids War, a small group of REF Rifts Earth commandos led by Animal and aided by a Chiang-Ku dragon, several Juicers, and 100 Kittani defectors, were able to secure the smaller battlefortress and remove it from Ki-Talan during a systems test. The ship would be named the SDF-4 Apocalypse by Animal for his planned exodus to the stars.

Not long after, a mixed crew of humans, Zentraedi, Kittani, and others left Earth via the area at the North Pole where the debris ring wouldn't have an effect on their flight. Loyal to Animal, they have left the Sol system completely and are headed for parts unknown, possibly to explore the remains of the Robotech Masters Empire in Tirolspace.

Special Defenses:

  1. DS-2 Full Barrier System: The SDF-4 has a full force field to protect it from enemy assaults. The force field encompasses the entire ship, which presents a bit of a problem in that the SDF-4 cannot fire its weapons or launch mecha while the force field is up. The force field can erected within 5 to 6 seconds, which means that the barrier can be dropped and replaced immediately. The DS-2 Barrier Defense System can regenerate its M.D.C. at a rate of 5,000 per hour.
